Facilitating Victims of Forced Labor and/or Labor Trafficking to Access to Holistic Aftercare Services and Promote Networking among Survivors

By the supporting of International Justice Mission (IJM) Myanmar, the YKBWA implementing for the four areas as follow during April 2022 to March 2023

Output 1 : The existing Local Survivor Net Work (LNS) is empowered and capacity of the participating survivors is strengthened to become a registered association and act as and agent of change.

The project will continue to provide necessary capacity building trainings to further strengthen the LSN, which was formed within the previous project cycle. The project aims to build up the capacity of the LSN member so that they may become change agents, with their voices reaching to the relevant government sectors for promoting protection for the survivors of the trafficking in general. Moreover, the outstanding member will be selected to attend teacher of training courses that will be provide by IJM. The members will be selected based on the standard which will be set with the consent of the LSN. Those who have complete teacher of training will also be supported to give back their community by conducting awareness raising activities in their community. This project also aims to support and guide LSN itself on how to become an association and prepare all the required documents to ready for applying for association registration. All the above processes are essential elements to becoming an organization, with aims to further involve in advocating for reformation of national policies and procedures related to trafficking issues in the country.

Output 2 : Survivors of forced labor and labor of trafficking received holistic aftercare services toward restoration.

This project will be provide survivor support services pertaining to effective care of survivors of Forced Labor and Labor Trafficking for successful rehabilitation and reintegration. The services include the provision of psychosocial support, health care support, shelter support, legal assistance services as well as other kind of support including income-generation start-up project and opportunity for vocational trainings. For services that are not available at YKBWA, referrals will be made to appropriate organizations to provide further assistance to the survivors. The evaluation of the survivors’ restoration will be administered by IJM’s own tool- Assessment of Survivor Outcome (ASO).

Output 3 : Members of the existing Community Watch Group (CWG) are identified, strengthened, and empowered to actively contribute and apply their knowledge on labor exploitation, Labor Law and rights, TIP Law at the project targeted communities.

Utilizing the existing community watch group, members will be selected as appropriate for certain training to build up their capacity in identification of forced labor and labor trafficking cases in their community. Moreover, TOT sessions will be provided to the representatives form CWG, who will then be supported to conduct community members as well as the community leaders in the targeted areas and the local government authorities will be able to identify forced labor and labor trafficking cases and will be empowered to collaborate with CWG members to provide support to the survivors.

Output 4 : One fishermen group establish to empower and strengthen capacity of participating fishermen to become agents oc chance for protection of workers at fishing industry

The project will identify suitable and interested fishermen from local fishing industry, from them into a group, and provide capacity building trainings, as necessary. The purpose of this fishermen group is to raise awareness the lost rights between employers and workers and to liaise with fishermen in emergencies. The Group will also be trained to liaise with relevant fishery department for the systematic screening and admission of workers into the fisheries as well as to claim their rights when necessary. It also aims to take part in developing policies and procedures that protect the fishermen as reports of abuse have been heard but limited intervention is observed. Since the fishermen will only be inshore during rainy season, this project will be implemented only between May and August.
